The U.S.Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in a recent announcement have put forward the revised filing instructions and addresses for applicants filing an application for employment authorization, Form I-765. The Form I-765 is usually filed by a temporary resident of the United States who is eligible for employment authorization.
From February 24, 2010, the applications of Form I-765 are required to be submitted at one of the USCIS lockbox facilities or the USCIS Vermont service centre. The filing location is as per the classification under which the applications are filed. The website www.uscis.gov contains updated information on Form I-765, which can be verified by applicants for further clarifications.
When submitted under certain categories, the Form I-765 can be electronically filed (e-filed) with the USCIS. The USCIS website can be referred to find the list of the eligibility criterion to e-file Form I-765.
An E-Notification of an Application/Petition Acceptance Form G-1145 must be completed and should be attached to the first page of the Form I-765, if the applicant opts to receive an email or text message regarding the acceptance of their application for employment authorization by the USCIS.
The objective behind the change in the filing location is to shift the overall intake of some benefit forms from service centres to USCIS lockbox facilities.
This announcement by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is proposed to centralize the form and fee intake, thus making the initial processing of application and fee intake more effective and efficient to the public.
Until March 26, 2010, the incorrect files of applications for employment authorization at the service centers will be forwarded and kept at the USCIS Phoenix and Dallas lockbox facilities by the USCIS Service centres. After this period the application will be returned to the applicant with a notice asking the applicant to send the Form I-765 to the correct location.
