Now is the ideal time to make a start on gaining new skills, or upgrading your existing skills, to help you get the job you want. Gov’t subsidised vocational education and training is accessible to people who do not hold a post-school qualification, or who want to gain a higher level qualification than they already hold.
There are now an unlimited number of government subsidised training places available to people who meet the eligibility criteria.
Are you eligible for a government subsidised training place?
You are eligible for a government subsidised training place if you:
Meet one of the following citizen/residency status:
Australian Permanent Resident (holder of a permanent visa)
Holder of a Special Category Visa (sub-class 444, New Zealand citizen)
East Timorese asylum seeker, or
Holder of a Temporary Protection Visa.
And any of the following:
under 20 years old (on 1 January in the year in which the course commences)
between 20-24 years (on 1 January in the year in which the course commences) and enrolling in a qualification higher than the highest qualification you already hold – or a Foundation level course
enrolling in a Diploma or Advanced Diploma and you do not already hold a qualification at an equivalent or higher level
a retrenched worker and enrolling in a qualification at a higher level than you already hold or a Foundation level course. You will need certain documentation from your employment services/job network provider and you must have been retrenched since 1 January 2009.
