How to Apply Eyeshadows

Brightly coloured eyeshadow can brighten the wearer’s day from the second she puts it on. It’s always a pleasant experience to see someone pass you by in the street with expertly applied eyeshadow in makeup fashion. You smile and then you wonder who is that girl and how did she learn to do that. Next thing you know you’re looking back at her to see if you can get a second glimpse at her makeup. Don’t worry. Applying eyeshadow expertly simply takes a lot of creativity and enough practice.

Everybody knows the colours of the rainbow but you must familiarise yourself with the colour wheel. This way you would know which colours compliment each other and which contrast.
Put together combinations that you would have never previously considered and see how they work. Put together groups of twos and threes. Arrange each colour as the main shade in turns and imagine them on your eyes. The possibilities are endless.
Put your Google search engine to good use. Research eye makeup fashion looks from which you can draw inspiration or replicate. Don’t only look for everyday looks but also look at those from the fashion houses and catwalks as well. Don’t rule them out if you find them too dramatic. Their techniques are very inspiring and the entire look can be toned down to suit your own taste.

Surely you’ve heard the saying that ‘practice makes perfect’. This has never been truer than dealing with eyeshadow application. The more you do eye makeup looks, the better you become at perfecting the art.
Layer your colours and textures of eye products. Eye makeup does not have to be one dimensional. Take a cream or gel eyeliner and use it as an eyeshadow base. Soft eye pencils work well for this purpose too. Black bases make colours pop in their true tones, while white bases make colours brighter; white works especially well under pinks. If you use a base in the same colour as the eyeshadow, it doubles the intensity of the colour.
Blend, blend and blend some more. This is the only way to achieve a gradient and well put together look in makeup fashion. Invest in a blending brush to achieve the best results. One thing to note about blending is that it tones down colours. Blend the outer edges of colours to maintain the colour impact in the rest of the application. You can use a blending brush to apply colour to the crease. This provides subtle yet sufficient definition to the shape of the eye.
Enlist your makeup products to double duty. You can use eye pencils and blushes for eye colours; your mascara formula can double up as wicked eyeliner and a little gloss as a finishing touch on your lashes could make them look extra special.
With powder eye colours, pat on the shade for vibrancy or use sweeping motions for a softer look.

At some point when you’re doing your eye makeup, it is likely to look crazy. Never mind; keep on going. By the time you’ve put on the last coat of mascara your eyes will be astonishingly beautiful.
