As of May 2010, over 2.1 million of California labor force are currently collecting unemployment insurance, which is 12.4% of the total population. This figure has been up 31% since May 2009. California had lost an addition of 716000 payroll between May 2009 and May 2010. Job Market does not seem to be recovering. Many analysts believe the number is much higher because the EDD figure does not including those who have given up in looking for job and stop collecting unemployment.
